Fire in Kensington

Completley unrelated to photography or my work, I would like to take this time to post about a fire which spread across my neighborhood two nights ago. A 7-alarm fire consumed an abandoned warehouse in our Kensington neighborhood in Philadelphia [AP news article]. At least eight other houses in the vicinity of the warehouse were destoryed, leaving many families homeless. Over 100 people were evacuated from their homes, and 400 families were without power for some time.

One of these houses was The Simple Way Community Center at 3200 Potter Street. This was home to a community arts center, an after-school program, Cottage Printwork's t-shirt micro-business, and also a living space for two aquaintences of mine.

The loss is great for these families and friends. Myself, and others within our community are coming together to help in any way possible with the relief and rebuilding on these properties. The Simple Way has set up numeours ways in which you can help donate to the cause on their website: http://www.thesimpleway.org/ [link]

I would ask that, if it is in your heart to give, to please help out financially with the re-building of homes for these families and The Simple Way center.

Thanks.

Hey I live right around there, I saw it, closest I've ever been to fire... I'll give money to that.
